Why we work with a single type of wood
When we started designing the Kirei Home collection, we had to make a decision that, in a sector accustomed to offering everything, might seem risky: to work with a single material. No mixing woods according to current trends, nor completing the catalog with plywood or metal to cut costs. Only solid mango wood, in every piece, without exception.
It wasn't just an aesthetic decision. It was a decision of character, suitability, and sustainability: mango simply proved to be a wood made for this.
To know one material in depth, instead of mastering them all
When you work with dozens of different types of wood, it's impossible to know each one thoroughly: how it reacts to humidity, how it ages, what tools it requires, what mistakes to avoid when carving it. By focusing on a single wood, our artisans in India have spent years, generations even, perfecting their relationship with mango wood. They know exactly how to treat it so the grain stands out, how to carve it without it splintering, how to let it age beautifully instead of deteriorating.
Why the handle
The first reason is practical: mango is a hard, stable wood, with the strength needed to withstand the daily use of a piece of furniture for generations, something that softer or lighter woods do not offer. It is not a fashionable choice, it is a choice of suitability.
The second is purely visual: it preserves a lively grain full of movement, with tones ranging from light gold to dark brown, sometimes in the same piece. No two boards are alike, so no two Kirei Home furniture pieces are either.
And the third, perhaps the most important, is sustainability. The wood we use does not come from felling young, healthy trees. It comes from mango trees that have reached the end of their productive life as fruit trees, after decades of bearing fruit. Instead of discarding them, we give them a second life as furniture designed to last for generations. We are not taking something from the forest; we are taking advantage of something that had already fulfilled its purpose.
A decision that shows in every detail
Working with a single type of wood also means we can focus on doing it well, instead of doing it all. Each piece passes through the same expert hands in India, and then through a manual inspection at our warehouse on the Costa Blanca before reaching your home. It's a slower process than mass-producing with cheap materials, but it's the only one that allows us to promise something few furniture stores can: that your piece, with its grain and character, is unlike any other.
